Qigong

Qigong: The healing art of beautiful movement.

When I first discovered Qigong, I was immediately drawn to it because of the way it connects with nature through its movements. To me, Qigong represents the beauty of the natural world, from the graceful flight of birds to the gentle swaying of willow trees in the breeze. It deepens my connection to nature poetically and profoundly. Gentle movement rising from the depth of inner stillness breathes new life into the moment, a place where the thinking mind can rest.

Where our attention goes, the Qi flows.

As we become present in our inner life (Yin), we open ourselves to the depth of our being, and our movements become meditative. All outward expressions (Yang) become more attuned and refined. This not only improves our physical health but also helps us find a sense of balance. From this center, we can achieve a type of stillness that enhances our daily lives and positively impacts all those around us. We can become the expression of stillness within movement witnessed in our awareness, emotion, and physical sensation.

Listen here to a clip of me speaking about how qigong and embodiment enrich one another:

I teach Qigong forms that are Yin in nature.

Embodying the qualities of moonlight, cultivating a subtle attunement to ourselves and our surroundings, and dissolving the illusion of separateness.

Our movements are inspired by the natural world, mimicking the dance of nature itself. We are not separate from nature but rather an integral part of it, and when our movements mirror the natural world around us, there is no separation.

  • One of my most unforgettable Qigong classes, "Full Moon Qigong," was held on a crisp autumn evening in Wisconsin. While in a clearing surrounded by woods, we stood at the entrance of a labyrinth. After the Full Moon practice, we silently entered the maze, experiencing “Walking Qigong.” The wind rustled the remaining leaves on the trees, and an owl occasionally hooted, creating a unique ambiance as each made our way, a walking meditation.

Faces emerged out of the darkness, and the moonlight illuminated them fleetingly. The diffuse moonlight blended everything, creating a sensual and cohesive atmosphere within our group. Although we couldn't see any details, the moonlight acted as a mirror, reflecting our movements and creating cohesiveness. It was such a beautiful evening where we felt a deep connection.

Through the practice of Qigong, we can experience this interconnectedness firsthand. Nature moves within us. Come, learn, and experience the “Healing Art of Beautiful Movement.” I firmly believe that healing happens for the Earth when we do so. It goes wherever you go, an intimate companion with the self and your environment.

By experiencing what is deeper than energy, we free bodily constrictions.

During my journey practicing Qigong, I became curious to learn about Chinese Medicine. An integral part of my education was the study of Qi (energy) expressed in movement and the recognition of stagnation. I see the Realization Process as a way to address stagnation within our human tendency to contract ourselves throughout the fascia. Over time, contracting the fascia can become a pattern resulting in a habitual response to life. By experiencing communion with what is deeper than energy, we are able to free our bodily constrictions and release the binding stagnation through deep attunement and movement.
